Despite the Letdown of Game of Thrones, Fantasy Shows Continue to Surge

Published:

A dark cinematic masterpiece was what Game of Thrones set itself up as for years as it awed both newcomers and veterans of fantasy works. For over half a decade you couldn’t go anywhere or meet anyone without talking about the show at some point. Who your favorite character was. Who was going to die next. Perhaps most convoluted of all, who you were projecting was going to win the game of thrones. Each new season was better than the last. Until that final season squashed so many hopes of fans and felt so rushed. As quickly as the show took over, it was gone without a trace.

Despite the disappoint of Game of Thrones, an expanded generation of fantasy lovers has continued clamoring with their voices and their wallets for more. Shadow and Bone, Carnival Row, and The Nevers are all attempts to continue to meet this need. Each presenting a unique take on the fantasy genre, and each is receiving quite a bit of positive attention by fans. There are even rumors of a new Lord of the Rings series in the works at Amazon. Time will tell how fantasy continues to be received by the public, but at least for the here and now it continues to capture our collective imagination.
