A recent article by CNN has reported to the public that the COVID-19 situation in India may well be far worse than it has been shown to be in the public record. As it stands currently, more than 17.6 million cases have been reported, by the total number of cases might well be as high as more than 500 million. The death toll alone might eventually reach as high as 13,000 every day. As it stands, there are reports of makeshift funeral pyres in Delhi as it struggles to cope with cremating the dead.
The Indian economy has been hit hard, much like other economies around the world. Some states have begun to recover as the vaccine rolls out in ever increasing amounts. If the COVID-19 pandemic continues to be felt as hard as it has been across the South Asian state, the recession might linger even longer than it already has. That being said, optimistic perspectives predict that an economic recovery could occur relatively quickly by this summer, should a ramp up in vaccinations result in a slump in cases as has been seen in some other states. While there is hope for a turnaround in the near future, time will tell if India reasserts a strong economy.
