SNL’s 50th Anniversary Segment Sparks Controversy Over Problematic Guests

Published:

During Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special, the show spotlighted some of its most controversial skits and performances from past seasons, including those featuring disgraced singer R. Kelly. The “In Memoriam” segment highlighted several “problematic guests” such as R. Kelly, Sean “Diddy” Combs, late athlete O.J. Simpson, Jared Fogle, and Robert Blake.

In one memorable clip from 2013, R. Kelly is seen onstage with Lady Gaga, who thanks him for his performance immediately after a clip of Diddy saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover. My man is like R. Kelly.” R. Kelly’s legal team has expressed their displeasure with the inclusion of this reel.
