Recently the government of Ohio has announced a new incentive package for people to get vaccinated for COVID. Mike DeWine, the governor of Ohio has announced a prize of $1 million and college scholarships for students if they get vaccinated.
He has announced this statement last Wednesday and it has faced criticism as well from the GOP lawmakers and Democratic as they said it is not appropriate to utilize the federal financial resources of pandemic dollars for the contest. This initiative is taken because the vaccination ratio is decreasing and people are avoiding getting the vaccination. To cope with this situation, the Governor launched Ohio Lottery Scheme to withdraw names of 5 Vaccinated Ohioans to give them $1 million. This incentive will encourage people to get Covid-19 vaccination.
The governor, DeWine knew that people would think of this concept as a waste of money. But according to him loss of life to the virus which vaccine is available is a real waste instead of loss of money. The top house democrat question that using millions of dollars of relief funds can be misuse and it could make the ongoing crises worse.
Who will get $1 million in Ohio?
Ohioans individuals having age 18 years and more and have been vaccinated of COVID-19 can get this incentive. People who have been in the database of Secretary State as registered voters will automatically enter this incentive program. Every week the winners will be named and their eligibility will be verified that include either they are vaccinated or not, and other criteria. People of age under 18 years will have separate draws and the winner will receive a full college scholarship including boarding, room, and tuition.
Where the funding comes from?
The funds will be collected from the Coronavirus relief fund. The government of Ohio State has already distributed 5.9 billion dollars in federal pandemic funds and it will be receiving Joe Biden’s aid of 5.4 billion dollars from the coronavirus relief package of 1.9 trillion dollars. The statement of DeWine can have influencing consequences like a prize of $1 million is persuasive. There is a separate lottery plan for people of teen ages. They will be randomly awarded a full four-year scholarship so that they can attend state universities in Ohio.
